2019 -

On 13th May 2019, Millwall FC released a statement that announced the women's team, Millwall Lionesses, had decided to split from the club and become an independent entity and operate under the name, London City Lionesses.

The split had already been agreed in principle by the FA and the transfer of Millwall Lionesses' Women's Championship licence to London City Lionesses, was officially approved by the FA on 29th June 2019.

The newly independent, London City Lionesses, were funded from 2019 by entrepreneur, Anthony Culligan and his wife, Diane Culligan. Diane was the club's chairwoman and ran the club's operations.

2022–23 Season -

The start of the 22/23 season saw optimism from management after England's triumph in the 2022 Euros saw an increase in club season-ticket sales. However, later that season the club hit a challenging spot as their manager, Melissa Phillips, resigned in January 2023 to become the assistant manager of NWSL team, Angel City FC. London City Lionesses were sitting in 1st place in the Barclays Women's Championship.

At the end of the season, in June, it was rumoured that all 20 of the club's players, sent a message to joint owner, Diane Culligan, asking her to sell the club or raise additional investment as the players stated there was financial instability, no permanent manager and at the time, there didn't seem to be players joining the club.

2023–24 Season -

The season started with new signings, Ruesha Littlejohn and Grace Moloney; and a permanent manager in the form of Carolina Morace. 

On 15 December 2023, the Culligans sold the club to ?entrepreneur/American Business Woman?, Michele Kang, for an undisclosed price. Michele Kang already owned NWSL side, Washington Spirit, and had invested in Lyon.??

Carolina Morace was sacked in February 2024 due to the poor results from the club, which left them in a relegation battle.

Remi Allen took charge until the end of the season and the results instantly turned around. London City Lionesses secured their safety in the Women's Championship for another season.

27th June 2024 - The Start of the Michele Kang era - 

London press conference ... announcement by the club and Michele Kang of the signing of Kosovare Asllani, who at the time was the captain of the Sweden Women's national side. Asllani had previously played for Manchester City, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

They also announced the appointment of Jocelyn Prêcheur as the new manager; Jocelyn was the former manager of Paris St. Germain. 

The press conference and the two announcments were "a statement of intent that [would] have raised eyebrows around the global women's game."

It was also announced that the club would move from their home ground of Princes Park, in Dartford, Kent to Hayes Lane in Bromley; in a ground-sharing agreement. ?? Princes Park home since breaking away??

The club also purchased Cobdown Park, in Aylesford, Kent; a 23-acre site with the aim of developing a world-class women's training facility there.
